What kind of bird is it?

I once had a male gouldian finch that couldn't sing because of air sac mites....

but I'm no expert on health problems in birds :(

hi hilary
it could quite possibly be the cause ,as you say canaries do not sing during the molt.they only sing when they are happy and the molt really takes it out of the birds

ken
you can always tell a yorkshireman, but you cant tell him much

I bought a male Gloster Canary from a friend and he sang his heart out every day. We loved hearing him sing...

All of a sudden he quit singing for about a month. Then I noticed feathers everywhere. OK. That's it. He's molting.

But he didn't sing for another month after the molt. I was so worried.

Then 2 days ago he started singing again......

I think like the others said if they are molting they Do Not Sing.....
Happy Birding......<><
