I can't speak for everyone, but I still give all of my birds their eggfood every morning. P_rotein for feathers and building up those egglaying muscles.

Your new setup looks great and very functional Donna. I wanted to ask you about the painted surfaces.....is the paint a glossy finish? I am still a couple years away from having my own bird room but am already thinking about paint colors and finishes. :-k

Yes... it is a semi-gloss paint and can be wiped down very easily. :)

That worked out great, Donna! As far as the eggfood, I always give my juvies eggfood, as they are still growing and molting. Since your juvies are in with your resting hens, the hens will get the eggfood, too. Just think, if you had cages like me, you could do 30-40 dishes of eggfood each morning!

AMEN Sally! I love to start my morning with 20 plus dishes - and lets not forget the "veggies" now too! Goodness! Run a breakfast cafe here and no wonder I have babies coming out of my ears!

HUH....I am joining the ranks of short order cook for finches...the morning consists of getting the dogs out, turning on all the bird lights, getting the coffee sharted, feeding the dogs, making eggfood and serving the finches (I have 19 cages...now!)....and that is while still half a sleep!

I'm shortcutting the veggies--I mix two parts eggfood to one part chopped veggies, mix it all together like a slaw, and that way I just have to scoop one spoonful for each cage, speeds things up a bit, and the birds don't seem to mind.

I'm doing that too for the Finches - I'm talking about the veggies for the Linnies - peas, carrots, corn and green beans every morning too...

Well all has gone well so far and the birds seem to be adjusting to their new "envirment" . Here is my problem.... the gouldian hens are hanging on the wire socializing with the boys. I have changed the diet in the room with the hens for a week hoping to put them all into a molt. It hasn't worked so far....... Now I am wondering if I need to put up a sheet or something so they cannot see each other.
Today I saw in the male gouldian side two boys in a nest "mating". Is this normal? There are nest up on that side since I have other species breeding. Goodness!! I am about ready to open the door and let them all have at it!!!!

Your in a tough situation over there I really feel for you. I think you're doing the right thing though. Even though they may have different ideas ;) You sure have some determined Gouldians. I wouldn't be too concerned about the males breeding, they are getting practice  Mine display and jump up and down to each other and sure if they had nests available they'd probably be doing the same thing.

My concern would be if the hens started dropping eggs like crazy. I hate to see you put a sheet up but I know with mine, even though they are in the same room and right above one another, not being able to see each other helps. You have a different set up though and just a shame to ruin it with sheets etc.

I think they will be fine and get used to changes after some time though.

Good luck!!
Renee
