Black Cheeked finches

Post by cvalda » Mon Mar 21, 2011 4:58 pm

I fell in love with two sweet birds this passed week, and decided to bring them home. (These are not my first finches). The cage was labeled "Black Cheek" and all of the birds in the cage had the black cheeks, except for one. Of course that is one of the ones I fell in love with, and I got her! I think that she is just a regular Zebra finch, though. (The other one that I got is definitely Black Cheek, LOL) Anyways, I was just curious! I don't care either way, as I love her to bitsies! She is the friendliest and most brave bird I have, by far, and the breed doesn't matter to me! I was just curious!

(Oh, her name is Mary! :) )

Welcome to the forum =D>
I have no experience with the black cheeks but I know that many here do and should be around shortly to give you an answer. :D

She looks like she might be a normal female to me, do you have a picture of her face?

I have black cheeks, they are very sweet zebras. They have a gentle behavior.

This is the best I have of her face for now! (It's her pudgy face that made me fall in love with her!) She's pictured here with her best buddy, Kamakawiwo'ole! (Okay I just call him Ole for short! LOL!)

The white appears to be a Continental CFW or Black Cheek CFW (I have these also) Love them!

Oh wow, see I'm learning new stuff already! I hadn't know about this "CFW" thing so this is a different kind of Zebra finch (as opposed to just the orange cheeked zebra)?? Well then please tell me about my other pair of Zebras! They had eggs hatch yesterday!!! The male then is a regular CFW? What about the sweet female? (His name is Joaquin, hers is Wasin. They laid five eggs, I am not sure how many have hatched but they are very diligent so I have kept my distance!)

Thanks so much, everyone, for your help!

She is a pied, she has a very wide black tear line...she is really pretty. The male CFW is really nice, I do believe you hit the jackpot on pretty little birds! Congratulations.

We would love to see pictures of the young!

Hope the site helps...
