GREEN SINGING FINCHES

Post by jeanne223 » Tue Mar 22, 2011 9:09 am

I have been looking at these Green Singing Finches sitting in Pet Smart for what seems forever. Now they are on sale. My question is this I have societies, two canaries and two St. helenas is a cage together. It is a very large cage. Could I put two of the singers in with them? I know they are supposed to be pushy but? What does anyone on here think as I know all birds are different.
thanks

You say the cage is "very large" - how big is it? I have Green Singers in with other finches with no problems at all but when I want them to breed I remove them to a separate breeding cage. It will all depend on the individual birds, the size of the cage and whether you will be breeding them in there.

No,
I wont be breeding and the cage is big enough for at least 15 finches.

first ... the canaries are they both males / females ? cos canaries and green singers do fight and do x-breed !!

cage size .... you say good for 15 finches but that doesn't say anything to me ... i can show you pictures with 15 birds in a cage .... size shoe box and the owner still saying its big enough !!

You definitely don't want to put Green Singers in with canaries--they are both Serinus species and can definitely crossbreed. And take it from me, you don't want a hybrid cross between a canary and a Green Singer. Someone sold me one long time ago as a Green Singer, and he got the best of the cross in looks and song, and the worst of the cross in temperament--he killed everything I put in the same cage with him! He spent the rest of his years as a hermit, alone in a cage, though he was near other cages--that is the best I could do for him for companionship.

Well,
If that is the case I don't want to take a chance. I guess if I decide to get them I will put them in a separate cage. thanks for all the input I have read about them but always wonder what others have experienced and yours Sally was a bad one. I don't want to go through that.
