My last EGF died.
Well that's it for me! My last EGF died and I am not getting anymore! That's four in two years. These birds are way too sensitive. Went lite on me! My Green Singer is tuffer than a goldie! I have never lost a green singer or java or a canary. Ok,I lost one canary hen, due to egg binding. They are not afraid to die!! I will keep my Cuban Finches, and Green Singers and get some more canaries! I hope my mule lasts a good long time, he is three years old now.

I am so terribly sorry you lost your EGF (I just don't know what an EGF is).

Sorry for your loss. I also suffered many losses with this species. As recently as 2008 I had two pairs breeding with a total of nine birds. Now I am down to only one male.

Something funny about ( MULES ), is they are a tuff bird. It has to do with it being a cross breed. They get the best of both worlds. Genetics favours the mule or the hybrid.

That goes with real mules, Donkey x horse crosses, they are tuff and can eat practically anything and they can work in areas where horses can't.

Re: My last EGF died.
I gave up on goldfinches years ago. I went through 3 pairs in less than 6 mos.
Not hardy at all. Maybe it's the hot humid climate here in Louisiana. Don't know & don't care anymore cause I am totally over them.

What do you keep now?
Some say it's humidity, some say coxi, some say they are not meant to be kept in captivity, I don't know?
