Boo Hoo

Post by JohnBoy » Sat Mar 26, 2011 12:15 pm

It looks like I will not get a white breast out of the 5 birds from my BH, WB, GB male and OH, PB, GB female. It appears they will all have the purple breast. One bird is still questionable but I really think it will be PB. Got 3 male and 2 female.

If the hen is not split to white breast, you will never get a white breast from that pair :? BUT.... the chicks are all split to * breast :D So if you pair them with a WB or split to WB the you will get some :D
I love breeding this way, of course that means you have to keep your babies so you can breed them next year but it is so rewarding to create your own lines, tweaking the genetic gene pool to get better and better birds :D I also find that the birds that are born under my care are so much more calm with my presence..... they really become more like pets :D This clamness also results in better parenting skills :D

Like Candace said if you breed a WB to a PB you will always get PB unless the PB is split to WB, then you will get some PB and some WB.
Though all your chicks will be split to WB from that pair. :)

You will have a Blast doing the show in July. It is a lot of fun being around people that enjoy the same passions as you do :D You have such a variety too and buyers are always looking for healthy , home raised stock.
I am not planning to sell at any fairs at the moment... I am in the process of putting in an offer on another retail property space... still working in getting a small bird specialty store opened. I will be in the purchasing mode though  Ponchatoula is like 5 hours drive for me, I think Kentwood is more like 6 hours ?? Orlando will be my first shopping spree :D and that is 6 hours but am hoping to make contact with a few finch and canary breeders that I can buy from throughout the year.
If you are ever interested in selling some of your finches to me to be sold through my store just PM me and we will chat. I may come over to Ponchatoula fair..is that around the same time as Mobile? I believe that one is in July also? Haven't checked the calendar that far in advanced yet... Still getting my ducks in a row... I mean finches in a row
