Finch biting his own toe, bleeding, not sure what to do

Well for about I'd say over 9 years we've had our Zebra Finch named Mojo and he's had two wives already and a child. The wives and child have passed on but he is still going on until today. Me and my brother went out today and when we got back and settled down and my brother went to change his water we noticed blood on all of his perches. I instantly ran to the net to see how to help him and from what I read I put him foot into salt water then put some flour on it to stop the bleeding. Well it started again and me and my mom ran out to get some quick stop for the bleeding. It's supposed to be for dogs, cats and birds. The problem is he keeps biting at the toe and we have no idea why he's doing it and why all of a sudden and how to help the poor little guy. We love him to death and were worried sick about him. Will someone please help.

Try some cornstarch, it has saved the life of at least one of my birds.

The woman in PetCo said that to but one good thing is it seemed to have stopped. What I'm worried about now is why did he do that and will he do it again tomorrow? He's grooming himself now it seems like and is eating and drinking his water but I'm still very, very nervous.

He must have had something stuck on his foot.

Do you think he'll do it tomorrow? He seems to be grooming himself now and sleeping in the food dish and beeping a bit more then he was but were still very worried about him. We thought he might have bumblefoot because his toes are are curled up but he doesn't have any bumps so we just assumed he has arthritis because we also have one of those protective disks on his cage. He's had that condition for years now though and he just now did that to his toe.

I really do wish I had an answer

Hopefully he just had something stuck to it and just got carried away. Also if the bloodstop didn`t taste very well he may just decide to avoid it. I would make sure that I gave him a bath tomorrow, just to sooth his foot and let him clean himself up.

This has happened to one of my older owls, he has a tiny hair wrapped around the end of his toe from some nesting material that had horse hair in it...tried that once and will not use it again. I had to slowly unwind it from his tow and use neosporin on it. What kind of nesting material do you use, perhaps like mentioned before he got it caught on something.

Well I uncovered his cage today and he seems to be doing better. He's singing and beeping and not biting at his toe like yesterday at least I haven't seen him do it and his cage is clear so far.

We did see a string like at the bottom of his cage but not from the nesting but from the string on the toy we have him. That may have been the case as you guys said and it went out of control. I just hope in a way it was it and that he won't be doing it again.

About his girlfriend/wife he doesn't have one currently. The last one we got him, Faith, was very very aggressive with him. I know Finches are very sociable birds but he seems honestly happier now. He's the living room where we all sit and talk and he's never alone. I may be wrong but he's been without a partner for about 4+ years now.

welcome to the site,he may have caught his claw on the cage wire,or on the toy that is in is cage,unfortunately all animals birds cats and dogs wil not leave a wound alone if it starts to bleed,but if its not bleeding now he will probably leave it alone,the problem is the sight of blood on birds is allways frightening because the speed a birds heart beats especially zebs ,the blood pumps out pretty quick...i remember going in my bird room once and thier was blood all over the place,all that had happened was a canary had caught its quill feather in the bars and the blood from it was really bad ,but once i had stopped the blood and given it a bath it was fine
