Re: GIBBER ITALICUS CANARY
HAHAHA
this is baby i raised this year... it fledged a few weeks ago...
this is one of the RAREST canaries in the USA... and very uncommon everywhere else as well...
they are a challange to breed... and most do not like them do their "look".
i love RARE AND UNUSUAL anything... as well as being hard to raise makes it like a finch for me...
i love the frilling. and posture. and song of these birds...
i also raise the LIZARD, NORTH DUTCH FRILL, and PARISAN FRILL. as well as some others as fosters...
but the GIBBER ITAILICUS is my FAVVVVVVV!!!!

Re: GIBBER ITALICUS CANARY
Congrats on your chicks!! I too love all of the domesticated canary breeds. I have only ever seen one of the gibbers though.
You know I like the unusual too, this bird reminds me of a bent over, aged and worn out man that doesn't bother with his apparel any more but still can sing the most pleasant and gayest of tunes

How much do you sell the PARISAN FRILL for?
I have not seen any here in Calgary.
When I go to Ontario in June i am going to try and locate a pair.
Toronto is the only place i have seen them for sale in Canada.

Re: GIBBER ITALICUS CANARY
It must be incredibly uncomfortable to not be able to properly bend your legs.

Re: GIBBER ITALICUS CANARY
they can bend them just fine.... and its kinda cute to watch them relax... or sleep on the perch...
like most other TYPE bred canaries... they pose when you are around them... and posing for them means that straight yet hunched posture... they fly very well... and sit and breed just like any other canary...

Re: GIBBER ITALICUS CANARY
Well congrats on successfully breeding something so rare. I had never seen or heard of this type of canary before I saw your post. You learn something new every day around here!!
I do have to say that when I did a google image search I was rather taken with the Parisian Frills too. Gibbers are unique!

Wow!!!
He looks like the "chinese crested" of the bird world...
I can understand the appeal of having a unique bird, but this one is way out... No thanks for me.

I agree, variety is the spice of life! Beautiful border canary! (How do you complement a G I canary?) Man -- that is an ugly bird but I'm sure he has a good personality!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
After all, we all think are babies are the most beautiful things
But my older son just thinks that they are {gross}
, until they get their feathers......then they are just too cute
