Sprouting Millet Spray

Take spray millet and soak it for 24 hrs.
Put it in a see through container and loosly cover it, then put it in warm location.
When it starts to germinate, give it to the birds to eat.
In picture one you see the differant stages of growth, 1 day, two days, and three days.
You can give to them at any stage.
I like to give it to them as green as possible.

When they pick all the green off it or it dries out, I toss it outside under the bird feeder for the birds outside to finish off.

I soaked some millet spray this weekend. (I actually left it in the water more than 24 hours because I forgot. ) It's now without water in a closed clear container. But so far I don't see any sprouting...

Could that be a sign of bad quality of my millet??

I don't think the window is warm enough.
If your furnace is still running, put it on the rad.
I keep mine by an electric heater.
It works better and grows faster with bottom heat.
If it is too damp, you will get a white fuzz growing.
Just rinse it off with warm water and put it back it the container.
If there is a strong nutty smell, that is fine,
If there is a rotting wood smell that means there was too much moisture.
You have to play around with and try differant ways of doing it.

Too much moisture in the container = rot/smell
Not enough misture = drying out.

I saw a little sprouting this morning but also a little white mold, so I'm keeping the container open. I'm sure in summer I'll have better success with sprouting, warm as it is in Georgia.

No radiators in my house, we have that dreadful heating/AC system that blows warm/cold air through big pipes into the house. I moved here from Europe where we had radiators too, and took me a little while to get used to that constant blowing noise and moving air, and I still don't like it. But in summer I'm quite happy to have the AC...
