I saw a little sprouting this morning but also a little white mold, so I'm keeping the container open.

When you see the sprouting, you can start feeding to them, it does not have to be three days old. The mold I think is harmless, I just rince it off, it has never adversly affected my birds.

I agree with Lou, I wouldn't offer anything that has mold on it to my birds.

But, Kenny at least you can watch the wild birds enjoy it, and know that you have contributed to the upbringing of their beautiful and healthy babes. :D

hi
has anyone tried cous cous in there eggfood mixture, and also i was looking in my notes and found a piece about quinoa seed which i fed to my youngsters as a vitamin type seed when i first started using it you could only buy it from health food shops now you can get it from most seed suppliers.....by the way it is pronounced keen-wa for some strange reason....when i first rang the shop they hadnt a clue what i was talking about until they asked me to spell it you can also soak it and let it sprout if you wish,by the way humans can eat it aswell

Hi Kenny,
Yes, I do add cous-cous and quinoa to my finely chopped eggs , I cook it first and let dry a little then add small amount of corn meal to it. This dries the eggs a little

I added cous-cous to the egg-mix (with grated carrots and corn meal) when my budgies were breeding, they raised their young on that. I found that the finches prefer the plain egg + corn meal mix though and I haven't mixed cous-cous in for that reason lately...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Too much moisture or old millet spray.
I have had it happen also.
It's not an exact science and I am no expert.
I had to play around a few times before I got it correct.
Try just one first and cut it into three pieces.
