Hi guys.
I have been reading that some people give their birds boiled rice.
does anyone do this? if so, do the birds like it?

Re: Feeding rice
I thought about it when I made rice the other night but never did give them any. I don't know what nutritional value they would get from rice that they aren't getting now. So I didn't bother.

Re: Feeding rice
I may try this sometime, just to see if they like it.
Would it make a difference if its brown rice done in a ricecooker?

Re: Feeding rice
Oh my birds love boiled rice. I chop it up into halves because the grains seem too big for them. I guess you could stock up on crushed or small grain rice just for the birds, but it never accured to me. Rice is high in protein and it's also softer than the seeds when boiled.
Have not tried brown rice, though.

Re: Feeding rice
I do occasionally (when we have leftovers), but it's mostly the budgies that eat it. I don't think the small finches care for it at all...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Re: Feeding rice
Well, I tried it and they liked it! It was white rice so probably not as good as brown rice but they did like it. I'll remember to give them some next time I have leftovers. Something different. maybe they think it looks like worms??
