Just an update on the Cubans.
I finally had a peak in the nests.
Alejandro and Evita (2nd pair ) have two little pinkies in the nest.
They look good and healthy!

Romeo and Julieta (1st pair) have two new eggs.
So their eggs didn't hatch and they buried them
and are trying again.

I am glad there is some babies!
Its still early in the season.

I think I may have miscalculated the days for hatching of the 2nd pair.
I think I was taking for granted that if one was laying the other was laying the same day.
Hopefully the two eggs should be hatching any day?

Well I have tossers!
They through out one of the babies.
It looks like the smaller of the two.
They didn't just through it, they through it the cage.
Pushed it through the wires! Wow!

Is it because I looked in the nest?
Or could it have been sick and they new?

I hope they feed the one left behind!?!?
The hen is in the nest with the other baby right and it is alive.

Fingers crossed!

Jerry

Ohhhh.... that is a shame, Jerry! Still, so many young parents do that tossing business.

Keeping my fingers crossed for your other eggs!

Sorry to hear they tossed... and with such vigour! Hopefully they will continue to care for baby #1. Tossing frustrates me to no end!

So far so good with the one baby left.
Both parents busy feeding it.
I can hear the feeding noise from 8 feet away.

Maybe there was something wrong with the
tossed baby?

Congrats on the baby. You are doing really well with the Cubans considering that you've had them for only a few months. Keep us updated on the baby and your other pair.:)

Thank you everyone!

They are young and it's their first time.
I will be happy if they raise this baby and the other
pair raise a few.

So fingers crossed!

I'm sorry to hear that Jerry. I too have faced that situation and although it frustrates me to no end - I try my damnedest to not be disappointed in them. Think of how foreign a place they are in. A very small (to them) enclosure to 'fly' around in rather than miles and miles of open space outdoors. We can only do our best with them.

Next time - try putting a divider in the cage just before the eggs are due to hatch, so the hen and nest are on one side and the male is on the other side of the divider. This has worked for me both times I've tried it. It keeps the male in the same area so the hen knows he is close by but out of range of the chicks. Just make sure they both have food and water of course.

I tried removing the male to another cage and the hen would only call and call and call for him - she wouldn't go back in the nest until I brought him back to the cage (with a divider).
