the birds went into the new aviary about 8 weeks ago now.
seems like they all love it, so far there is 1 newly fledged gouldian (were 2 in the nest but the parents wouldnt keep the 2nd, even after putting it back), the african firefinches have 2 bubs in their nest another week should see the little ones out & about, the charcoal zebras are onto their 2nd brood, 1st clutch was 1 male 2 females, the new clutch is only 2 bubs but as yet cant tell the sexes.
st helenas are sitting on 6 eggs, emblemas have 4 eggs.
the button quail have so far raised approx 14 young.
cant wait to add cordons and owls tothe aviary

Wow - congrats! Sounds like they love the new digs. Any hints for the fire finches? I have a pair sitting right now, but since it's my first time with them I have no idea what to expect other than that they like their privacy. Easier to do in your aviary than my breeding cage, but you never know......

Yes, I'd appreciate hints for the fire finches, too. My pair built an elaborate nest on top of a wicker canary nest. Then they started extending it out like a tunnel to the front. They made the tunnel so long, the whole thing fell over. When I cleaned it out, it looked like they used more feathers than any other nesting material, no wonder it collapsed. I checked the wreckage, but didn't find any eggs. I have my pair in a breeding cage, too. And congrats on all the babies!
