ID please

Post by Animal Quackers » Mon May 02, 2011 2:35 pm

Hello! These "finches" were in a large cage with some Societies and Spices yesterday at our local pet store. It's not too easy to see from my camera phone pic, but there are little yellow stripes just above their eyes. Any idea what they are?

Oh, I might be wrong. I was simply guessing. Since you saw them in person, try comparing online photos of "Gray Singers" and see if they are identical to the ones you saw in person at your pet store. Good luck! :)

You certainly could buy them but not with the intention of mixing them with the Greens, I don't think. Sally should be able to ID those for sure, she has Grey Singers.

Oh no - I would not mix them! Just enjoy the beautiful song!

I called the pet store and they are $45 a pair... Now to see if my husband will let us get them!

Oooh, if they are indeed Gray Singers, at $45 a pair, that is a total steal. Usually you would look at paying that for a single Green Singer - sometimes more. But yes, hopefully Sally chimes in. She has been successfully breeding her Gray Singers.

I think they look like female (or out-of-color male) orange weavers.

I think you're right. I remember seeing the out of color Orange Weavers at Petsmart a few years back.

They don't look like Gray Singers--mine don't have any yellow on them at all. The other thing I noticed is that the beak looks longer and pointier than the beaks of my Gray Singers. And just the whole look is off for Gray Singers.
