Houdini Gouldian Hen

Post by BigBear0007 » Wed May 11, 2011 12:48 am

I cannot find my gouldian hen!
I went to the bird room to have one last check.
Make sure the back door was locked and all was well.
When I looked in on the goulds! I could not see the hen.
I looked in the nest box ,and she wasn't there.
Only thing I can think off is she got out of the cage
and flew out when I had the door open.
It was a beautiful day and I wanted to air out the room.

How did she get out of the cage?

Jerry

Did you check underneath the tray? Could it be possible that you left a cage door open? My grandmother, whom I purchased a pair of finches for, seems to occasionally unintentionally leave a cage door open after replacing food or water. I talk to her over the phone on a daily basis and it's kinda funny when we're talking and she realizes there's a bird flying over her head. I hope you'll be able to find your hen - she is a real beauty. [-o<

I'm so sorry Jerry!!!!! I hope she turns up soon! It seems they are so small it's easy for them to hide behind or under anything! She's so pretty I hope you didn't lose her :(

Did you double check everywhere this morning Jerry?
Did you find her?
I have found that a few of them are able to get out through the smallest of spaces.

I think I will call them Maggie and Ike.
Those were the names of the characters in the movie "The Runaway Bride "
That's what I have, a gal that doesn't want to get into a relationship! Lol

Yesterday,I had an uncolored juvie escape his cage... part of the door above the feed dish did not fall all the way down after replacing the seed cup. The bird had access to the grow out room and balcony (enclosed with flight cages). I looked forever and could not find that little fellow..... I knew he couldn't get outside and figured he was just blending inwith the others in their cages...I scrutinized the top. backs. in between every cage. The only hidden area not visible to the eye was the garbage disposal...checked to see if he slipped under the rubber gaurd even..... no where to be found. I gave up and went to get some millet spray and water bottle to leave on the counter for him... when I came back into the room he flew right over my head  I wasted at least 45 minutes looking for him, amazing how well they can hide...in plain view no doubt #-o
Sure am glad you hen didn't make it outdoors!

I just went through the same situation. #-o
Separating boys and girls in the aviary, and one of my juveniles got out. I looked all over. Lost 2 hours of my day. #-o Headed into the bathroom, and wouldn`t you know. There he was sitting on the edge of the pharmacy mirror admiring himself

Nature at it's finest! If they were easy to spot in the wild we wouldn't have any  So very glad this story had a happy ending for all!!! =D>
