New Society Pair

Post by ranchnanny » Sat May 14, 2011 9:47 pm

Today I purchased a pair of Society Finches. I think I got lucky cause the one with what looks like a crest sings up a storm. The Hen doesn't have a tail is that something to worry about? She is so sweet looking I couldn't resist.

My Society hen looks just like yours and when she was young, about three or four months old, she did not have tail feathers either. Now, she is raising her first clutch and is being such a good mama! Good Luck!

Thanks Finchmix that makes me feel better. I have no idea how old either one is but they look very young.

They are very cute! :)

Sometimes the parents will pluck the tails from the babies before they are removed from the cage/colony for nesting material. They should grow back soon ;)

Just give her a lot of egg food, and her feathers will grow back quickly.

I see they have bands on their legs. I 'think' it should have the year they were born on it. That might give you an idea if they were at least born in '10 or '11. Love the cute little crest on the boy!
