I use the method that was explained on the ABBA website, I use ABBA soaking seed:
1. I use a glass bottle with a wide opening (Snapple). Fill it about 1/3 - 1/2 with soaking seeds.
2. Pour 1 cup of filtered water with a few drops of Sparkle in the bottle, and top it off with a little more water if it's not quite full, and close with the lid.
3. Shake it well and let it sit on the kitchen counter for about 8-12 hours.
4. Drain the water out, holding a small sieve against the opening so the seeds stay inside the bottle.
5. Let it sit on the kitchen counter for another 18-24 hours.
6. Rinse the seeds in a sieve and drain well.
7. Store the soaked seeds in a plastic container with lid (tupperware) in the fridge until use. Before use, rinse and drain once more.
I give my birds a couple of spoon fulls on their veggie food tray every day and they love it. I Leave the veggies and soaked seeds in the aviary during the day and discard what they didn't eat at the end of the day. My seed bottle makes soaked seed for about a week and I never had any problem with it being spoiled.
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.
