Male Zebra and Female Gould?

Post by Shasta_man » Fri Jan 11, 2008 1:33 am

New to the Forum... Great to find this place.

Question: Would a female Gouldian make a good companion for a male Zebra Finch? Please help some novices.

Our male Zebra, Spartacus (because he acts like him), just lost our beloved Cleo, his mate, to exposure when the power was off for 3 days after New Years. We were heartbroken, but resolved we needed to do what is best for him.

On going to our local Petco to look for a zebra finch, we found what appears to be a very healthy Gouldian all by herself, all of her companions being sold. She has all the signs of a healthy bird and we felt lucky to get her. We've brought her home but are wondering whether they will make good companions. Our interest is in making him happy, as well as her of course. We don't want to breed them but want him to be happy with somebody to sing with.

What do you think?

Thanks for your help.

He'd probably be better off with a "cuddly" bird like another zebra, society, or owl if you want them to bond, but having her around is definitely better than being all by himself! Plus I can't say a bad thing about gouldians - love those birds. Welcome - it's obvious that you want the best for your little feathered guys!
