Dirty bum?
Hi there,i have never owned finches before. Just bought two white finches and the male has poo stuck on his rear,is this normal? I tried to rub it off with a wet wipe but its realy caked on,could it be a health problem or just an acident?

Re: Dirty bum?
I would try giving him bath water and see if that doesn't clear things up. If that doesn't work you will probabl.y have to soak his bottom for a few minutes.

Even just a small shallow dish with about 1/2" of water would be fine and... welcome to the Finch Forum!

Re: Dirty bum?
Depends on how bad it is.
I have washed the butt of some of mine where the poop was all caked up around and over their vent. They would not be able to poop with the dried poop covering their vent. This is usually chicks just fledged, where their whole behind is caked in poop from the nest. And sometimes one of the parents from sitting in the nest w wet poop.
I caught them and LIGHTLY wiped their butt with a Q-tip and WARM water. I used warm water so they would not get a chill and loose body heat.
You will have to repeatedly wipe and wipe and wipe. Each time the water will disolve a little bit more poop.
If their vent is not caked over, I would just give them a bath and let them bath themselves.
