Sexing Spice Finches??
I will ask this question but I think I already know the answer.
Is there anyway to sex a Spice Finch? The reason I am asking the local Petco is phasing out the small birds and they had Zebra and Spice Finches for sale at $17.99 with 50% off. I would like a pair of Spice Finches but I want to be sure.

The only way is to listen for their very soft song of the male. My males sing every time the Society males sing and there are two males who sit next to each other and crane their necks, as if in competition, but also listening to the other male sing. They take turns, but there is a dominant male in our group of three male Spice and one female Spice.

I think I made the right choice not buying them as much as I would love to have spice finches. Its a matter of having enough room.
Thanks everyone for the input I've got them on my wish list.

Obviously our enabling skills need more work. You are still too practical!ranchnanny wrote:I think I made the right choice not buying them as much as I would love to have spice finches. Its a matter of having enough room.

I'm sure you'll have the space one day - my wish list is too big for my house too!
