Hi, my name is Wanda, and this is my first time posting here. Last week I bought a pair of Orange-cheeked Waxbills, and they went into a flight cage with a pair of male Zebra finches. On Friday, I woke up to find one of the OC's gone. I found a few feathers but did not find the bird and, heartbroken, assumed the cat got it. Well, my daughter located it later (in the cat's mouth) and was able to rescue it. It was unharmed, fortunately. I thought the bird had gotten out through the largish openings above and below the doors, and covered them to prevent further mishap. But this morning my husband found that the other one had gotten out. This one was not as fortunate

. The only thing I can figure is that these tiny birds can get through the bars. I didn't think this was possible, but what other answer is there? Has anyone else had this experience with these birds?
I plan to return the remaining bird to the store. I can't bear to think that it will get out again.
