Welcome to the Forum! What country are you from? I'm no expert but I was wondering, Are your birds outside in the winter? They may be catching cold. If it ASM you can put a little drop of oil or water on their throats so you can see the skin, then shine a light through it. (from underneath) The mites show up as black dots like pepper. It sounds like this has been a problem for a while. Do you have an avian vet you could go to? At least put the sick ones in a hospital cage and get a nice warm light on them. I'm sure someone with much more knowledge than I have will be on here soon to help you more. Good luck!!

Welcome and sorry you are having trouble with your Societies. I have four and they only breath with their beak open if they are threatened and scared. If they are like that all the time, they need to see an avian vet, if possible. If not, I'd treat for air sac mites and watch the droppings to see if they are normal. Good Luck.

6finchfriends thanks for your reply
i belong to pk and in winter there is not so much cold weather like in your city and i can maintain moderate temperature for them that is not a big issue i have approximately more then 50 of societies finches and now in my country there is summer and temperature goes upto 45C now days but i notice 2 finches out of whole flock face this problem they take breath with there open beak and one of them is in same condition from last 4months in my city there is no proper VET available i dont know what happened to them so better if guide me some more yes there droppings is regular means does not matter in dropping according to me i think there is some problem in there lungs what u say 6finchfriends ??
and i dont think that is AIR sack mite as i keep gouldian shaftials and star finches as well and many parrots also but i notice this problem is happened in my 18inch height 18inch front and 24inch deep portion cages i put one pair in one portion
and also tell that ACV of american garden is also i have can i gave to these as there may be some problem in there stomach what u suggest me i m waiting for your responses

45C is very hot! (That's 113 Fahrenheit!) Are your finches outside in that heat?

I've read (and actually experienced) that birds breathe with an open beak when they are too hot. I think that's their way to cool off, much like dogs panting. My guess is that it's too hot for your birds.
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

Yes, Ursula's spot on, they will pant if they are hot and 113 is too hot! And if it gets too hot they might die. Could that be your problem? Do you have a fan you can put on your finches to help cool them off? Hope you can cool them off and see if that helps!!

guys this temperature is not my aviary in my aviary max tem is 40C and my finches can bear upto 48C as i m not keep them as first on that place a big advantage is that hot air is not pass from my aviary so i think due to this my finches survive from last 4years and this is also reason of low temperature and i am not new one with finches i face problem so i wrote it there kindly tell me suggestion which are better for me about beak opening for breath
today weather is GOOD as raining day and temperature is 30C today all birds enjoy rain but 2piece of society stil in same condition and guys in winter tem is round about 4 to 6C and at that time one finch of them is breath with open beak and that one is stil with me so i dont think hoe weather is making some problem for breathing

Since you are experienced with birdkeeping and know your finches quite well - perhaps you should treat the whole flock for air sac mites just in case it is that. Since there are many birds you would probably want to get something to put in their drinking water rather than having to catch each one and treat it.

I only ever use Scatt but that is for putting on one bird at a time. You would need to use one of the other products that go in the water and I am not familiar with them. Someone else will have to advise you which product to get.

Good luck and welcome to the finch forum. We have several other members here from Pakistan as well. =D>
