Lilac breast or just pretty?

Post by L in Ontario » Thu Jun 16, 2011 6:18 pm

First pic - the bird in question is on the left
Second pic - in the middle
Third pic - on the right

Thoughts? Also, I'm not positive if it's male or female. #-o

Looks like a WB SFYB to me.
if it were lilac breasted i think its Body colour would be dilute green like the one in the last pic (dad i guess).
Where as white breasted would show yellow body.
Also guess Cock bird.. Have you heard it sing?

I vote male too. A pretty fellow at that. =D> I have a similar bird, with a powdery pink breast. I was told my male was a WB as well. =D>

I'm going to go with a BH.WB.Yb male
If it were a SFYb I would think you'd see more blue ring around his head and not so bright white of a chin.
The breast may be what they call a dirty white breast which after the next molt may go white.
Pretty birds

Lilac Breast acts just like White Breast not Purple Breast.

Thanks. I understood dirty whites were uneven in colour, splotchy or streaky.

Maybe he/she will pass it on... wouldn't that be cool! It's hard to tell the powder pink from the pictures (too much glare?) but he/she's a gorgeous bird!

That's what I was thinking as well Candace.

Her parents are:
C = RH-B,WB,SFY-B + YTB,PB,YB

However, I bought this YTB,PB,YB (mother) and 4 other hens at the same time from the same breeder and 1 of the other hens has given me two silver chicks. I only point that out because the breeder swore up and down that the hens were not split for anything.

I have a BB that had a little bit of light purple/lilac in its breast, so I thought it was somehow lilac, but it molted to a nice clean WHITE. No hint of the purple/lilac that was there before.
