they are joined at the wing....it will be hard to split them up when the time comes....is it a good idea to put a just weaned zebra in with them to get them moving and to give the penguin someone to bond with?

The owl is unrelated to the 4 babies in the flight and could be a mate in the futre for one of them. It will eventually part ways with his penguin friend and join the oodles of owls in the flight.

I would personally give them a couple more days to get used to the idea of eating on their own, and then place the young zebra as a companion.

I am still laughing at the fact that only Cindy could say she has oodles of owls

Janine...it took two year, a few varities of nest boxes, cage, flights, colony, not to colony, flower, wine soft music then finally babies...I have one pair on eggs and judging from the producing couple and the male doing a happy dance, I think there are more babies....gotta peek soon!

Psssst Anna....I think you are right!!! Hmmm can you set it up so you can split the 46' flat screen into 4 sections and have their nests displayed on the tv so we can sit on our comfy couch and just watch the magic happen....pass the popcorn!

Ta Da....here they are perching and doing well. the owl still has a little drroppy wing on one side but is doing great, flitting around, both perching. No handicap cage needed! We never thought they would survive, especially early on when handfeeding them.

That is just the best news ever! They look adorable together; I'm almost sorry you have to split them up although I know it's best. :D

If I had the funds I would go on Ebay and order a whole system of PC camera's that have the program and other hardware with them so that you can split your screen into as many as 8 different parts.

And, then I would get nothing done either! But I sure would have fun watching and learning what was going on in those nests!

Maybe some day.

6-25 zebras and owl.jpg
(penguin is on the right behind the normal zebra)

Yesterday I decided to take the owl, penguin & the young zebras that the owl was fostered with and place them in a new cage together. This is to get the owl and penguin use to other finches especiall the owl.

The owl will be moved in a week to the young offspring owl fight with 4 other non related owls.

The group of 5 seem to be getting along fine, they both take turns snuggling in the hanging basket with the other zebras. At night the penguin and owl sleep in a nest box and the three zebras sleep in the hanging basket.

What I thought was good was the three zebras are bold and go right into the dishes of food when set down, the penguin and owl follow instead of sitting off to the side for a bit join them.

I know I need to move the little owl but she (?) is enjoying herself with the zebras.

Awww they are all just so darn sweet!!

As long as Owl doesn't take on the Zebra identity, it should be fine. Otherwise I'd move it over with other Owls so it know how to be an Owl finch.
