3 chicks so far..

Post by andalcam » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:35 pm

Look what I found this morning! Are these little ones cute or what? :D I may be a bit bias here but I think they are adorable! My middle son says they look like aliens! These little ones are from a CFW male and a white (or very heavy pied :?: ) female. It's funny because I have a clutch of for sure CFW chicks that are a week old now and they are dark skinned with white wing feathers starting. These little ones are more of a pink color. I guess I will have to wait and see. :D

Baby #4 arrived the next morning! Sadly, I see no sign of the parents trying to feed them  I don't know what to do as I have nothing to hand feed them or any equipment to do so either. This is day 3 for the first 3 babies so I am expecting bad things today. This is their first clutch.

Can you see anything in their crops? Do you feed them plenty of eggfood and veggies? When feeding young, they need a lot of food or they will not feed the babies. Also, if they do not feed them, do you have Society's or other pairs that can foster? Good Luck.

If they are 3 days old and still alive, the parents are feeding them :D

I also would think if they are alive at 3 days old someone is feeding them.
best of luck

I see nothing in their crops at all. I have dishes of eggfood, fresh veggies, millet and of course finch seed in the cage. They have fresh water as well. i do not have any Society's. I do have Zebra's on eggs and a pair feeding a clutch that is exactly a week older than these chicks. Would any of these do? Thanks!

Oh I hope you are right! [-o< I know it's too little, too late for this clutch but I ordered the pipettes and syringe tips from Birds and Branches a few minutes age. I just need to find baby bird formula and make a brooder. I wish I was more prepared :(

I agree - if they are 3 days old - they are being fed. It may be difficult to see if they are in the nest. There won't be much to see in the crops until they are a bit older and the fuzz could hide the crops as well. If you see the parents going in and out of the nest - all is well.
