Thank you Jan and Anna...they are really sweet, very comical little birds. The older group of babies love to get on the silk ferns and jump off of them, they all get up there over and over...it is so cute.

I tried for over two yrs with the older ones now all the sudden there a lot of babies!!

Thank you Janine...when they first peek out it takes them a while to finally get up the nerver to come out. They are so cute as when you first see them...I still love it everytime the first one in a clutch fledges.

Thank you Donna! And we have eggs again to!!!

Cindy,
Congrats! They are great. =D> =D> I am waiting for my owl eggs to hatch, any day now.... It is hard to wait. This is their first clutch. So, we could use some of your good breeding fortune. [-o< [-o<

Cindy, you said you tried for 2 years? Do you thing they have to mature longer than other finches or do you think they just need to settle in and feel safe? Or do you think you had to get it just right? It's a fascinating finch to breed (even though I don't have any) and I love reading about them and about everyone's trial and error but mostly successes! =D> Yours are so adorable and to hear they play on the greenery! oh so cute! I'd be glued to my chair and never get anything done! :D

Trish, we had them in a mixed aviary with GBreast and RCCBs...after a few bad incidents of nest raids the owls were given a flight of their own. Then I bought two more pairs, one pair that produces a lot for me are in their ouwn flight. The other pair are in the bigger flight...now we have owls galore!

Deb...waiting is hard...then there's the wait for them to fledge!!!!! Keep us posted!!!

Cindy,
Thanks. I know... I keep wanting to peek, but I am NOT. I want them to really have a chance. I found three eggs two weeks ago today and six eggs a few days later. So, I estimate they are due to hatch any day between today and Monday. Both parents are dutifully sitting and I give them plenty of eggfood, pellets, seeds and veggies.
As far as the age/maturity of owls. My cock is 2 1/2 years old and I am not sure about the hen. All my other species took until they were closer to two years old to really start sitting and incubating clutches. So, I guess my experience is all the finches have done better around two years of age, regarding breeding.
