New Society Finches Pics

My girlfriend just knocked on my door about two hours ago with a cage of 3 society finches. She knew I was looking.

They are all dark in color excluding the white. One is going to a woman who raises societies. There is definately a pair. When I figure which two, they other one goes.

Thank you. It's funny to see them in this big cage and the three of them are sitting right next to each other perched like statues. Just scared. Give em a good night's sleep and tomorrow they should be active. Will keep you up to date.

Well, ok then, I don't have to ask what colors I got. lol. All chocolates then. When they have the white does that make it a pied or the coloring in society's is different than, say, zebras.

They are chocolate pied's. When they are chocolate selfs they do not have significant white on them. Nice birds!

Got to admit I was going for the fawn color at the bird farm before I got that knock on my door with these three. Well, if I wasn't sure before, now don't laugh now, but I have confirmation, literally, that 2 gals and 1 guy society. How do I know. 1 hen has laid an egg (pretty sure the male isn't iterested). In front of my eyes I watch him mount the other female. Unless birds don't care who they mount my guesses are right. lol

Meanwhile, wish I could put that one baby zebra with the society's. The daddy is doing the crusificion dance, mom had her turn and I'm trying to type this yelling at the male to "knock it off".

I need a vaca!!!!

Here is a technique I use.
I get a spray bottle and shoot the offending bird when it does something wrong. Just like training a dog not to do something. Although I have no idea if it really works for birds, but it does cool down the bad behavior for a while.

Just don't get carried away BLASTING the bird with water.

Good Morning Gary!! First I have to suggest a "dear diary" thread to the moderator. Everyday there is something and since I'm here and always have a question or tweak, it's fun (well for me to share). It would go like this:
Dear Diary,
Woke this morning and all is right with the world...finally....only took a month...but what's a month compared to years of fun and pleasure, right?? Anyway, I digress. (I just realized I should write a book). Before I got Gary's post last night I got mad and said enough is enough. No I didn't take the garden hose and dround he little bugger. I took him from dad's cage and put him back with mom. Now mom has 3, dad 1. (Why is it men always get away with doing less work than the women? Again I digress).
So zebras squared away. Horrah!!!!!!!

My 3 new societies are giving me alot of pleasure. (Bet you didn't think that was the word I was going to use). Anyway two have paired up "again" this morning. I didn't see this much action even when I was married.....again I digress..... Now there is this third wheel in the cage and she's a stunner. That one I wanted to breed. I tend to love the whites more. Anyway figure I'll keep her and use her next breeding turn with one of the upcoming babies since they are not related. Sound like a plan or will there be discord with a third wheel? BTW, last night the male came out with his song once and my ears bled. Holy cow! But when he is "chirping" he sounds like my 12 year old car. My ears are bleeding.

This morning I woke to the cries of zebra babies begging for food. The society's are in their own world enjoying, my ears are bleeding and I couldn't be happier. Have a good day. Lyn

PS(I really did have all that happen last night and today, but put it in an "light form". It takes away from posts so I won't do it again, but I was happy this am and wanted to extend my cheer because if it weren't for all of you, I wouldn't be sitting writing like a crazed person smiling.......

Things sound like they are going along fine

If you want to control breeding who breeds with who, you will have to breed them in individual breeding cages. Or no telling what will happen.

I just cleaned out the cage and there were two eggs on the floor. I took out the one female I didn't want the male to mate with. Well, apparently they did the deed this am. I took her out and put her in a different room. I really want the male to mate with the second female. I figure it will take time for them. The female does chirp but not like a cricket like the other one. Thank goodness. The male is a mute. But to be honest, when he did the deed this am with the other female, he did NOT sing. Not a peep. Right now the new two are sitting on the same perch, female chirping occassionally. My only concern is that the three have been together for months I found out today. Called the girlfriend who gave them to me. Hoping time will bond them. She's interested. He's not. Quite understandable since I was a bad girl and took his girlfriend away. I just love this female better. Is this ok what I did. Maybe I be more concerned about them and less about what I want.

How long were the birds together? Society's need another bird to not get lonely, so the one you took out should not be left alone. Sometimes, they pick a mate, but will mate with others too. You need one more Society! I have three male juvies, who are beautiful singers, but I am not near NJ.

BTW I loved your "dear diary" post. I often get carried away with wanting to share too, but I don't like it if no one responds to my ramblings because then I feel more alone. I love the dialogue and check daily for new posts and replys to my posts. Such fun.

You know, I used to feel like you if I didn't get responses. I did get one but it was a serious one with very good advice. I just was trying to make a point of letting everyone know that I am having alot of fun here and although my questions come across very serious and like my life depended on the answers, I wanted to lighten up. Granted, not more than one response but I did it for me. I really was serious, though, about having a thread "dear diary". I think it would be an original that I don't see on other boards. I bet it would be pages.

finchmix11, I inherited them. My info says months but what I'm not sure of is if I did the right thing. The male finally just opened his mouth and I think he's calling for the other bird up two flights so they can't hear each other. I don't have a problem getting another for the one I'm holding aside, but if these two don't take, then I would just put back the one alone and call it a day.
