Re: NEW: Sub-forums for different types of finches!
Okay I think I have most of the finch forums re-named and arranged.
We'll monitor this for a while and those forums that are not active or busy may get deleted, moved or merged.
Have fun!

Re: NEW: Sub-forums for different types of finches!
I think it is still a really great idea that will make all of our forum experiences better.
Two more thoughts I had-
1. Is it possible to be able to cross list a post in 2 forums? (I.e.if I had a question about nest building for zebras, can I post it both under zebras and breeding?)
2. Might it be worthwhile to include an "Other species" section that would be an appropriate place to post questions about new species/species that there isn't a sub-forum for?
PS I'm learning so much already just scrolling through the current posts and seeing all the latin names!

I gotta be honest I don't really care for this new feature... it's very overwhelming :/ Just my opinion...

I was thinking the same thing. However, just like everytime Facebook makes changes I grouse about them for awhile and then just get used to it and can't remember what it was like before. Hopefully we'll get used to this too!nixity wrote:I gotta be honest I don't really care for this new feature... it's very overwhelming :/ Just my opinion...

There are so many things that cross over from one species to another I think we could be missing out on some good information just because we don't' have that particular species. Can't tell you the number of times that I read about a little trick for this bird and tried it on that bird and it works. Not to mention all the little side discussions that go on in each post with valuable information.

Just post under Species - this is the main forum for all types of finches where there isn't a sub-forum already created.nelloyello11 wrote: 2. Re: NEW: Sub-forums for different types of finches!
I appreciate your feedback and feelings. There were a number of people who had requested the separation of finches according to their type or species. We just can't please everyone no matter what we do. Let's try this for a month or so and see how it goes. Perhaps we'll take a poll then and if the majority don't like it at that time - then we may revert back to the 'good old days'.Queen_Bee wrote:I was thinking the same thing. Fair enough, I'll say the one thing that really drives me crazy is that it will say before you go into the specific species sections that there are new messages, but once you go in, it doesn't show which topics are new or have had recent posts.
It does the same thing in the Marketplace - Events section... The only way for me to tell that the topic has been updated is by looking at the date to the right to see when the last post was made

What happens if you click on "View New Posts" on the upper right side of the screen (under the date)?nixity wrote:Fair enough, I'll say the one thing that really drives me crazy is that it will say before you go into the specific species sections that there are new messages, but once you go in, it doesn't show which topics are new or have had recent posts.

Re: NEW: Sub-forums for different types of finches!
In what way specifically, Donna? The new feature simply lists out the different types of finches. If you look down the list, you can see all the different varieties and simply pick the one you want to look for or talk about. No?dfcauley wrote:I have to agree! Re: NEW: Sub-forums for different types of finches!
It shows me new posts under every single topic, not just the species topics. It's really weird.. I'm used to it being a different color to indicate activity in a section, then when you go in, the posts that have had activity are again a different color than the rest. With the species divisions and Events section it's not like that, at least not for me.L in Ontario wrote:What happens if you click on "View New Posts" on the upper right side of the screen (under the date)?nixity wrote:Fair enough, I'll say the one thing that really drives me crazy is that it will say before you go into the specific species sections that there are new messages, but once you go in, it doesn't show which topics are new or have had recent posts.

Hopefully tweaking will assist some of the issues out there.
I am personally very excited and pumped about the segregation of the species.
I think we can create in-depth resources of the sort that have never before been available on line. The kind that serious breeders will be able to consult and add to.

Re: NEW: Sub-forums for different types of finches!
New posts Amandava (Gold/Orange-breasted, Strawberry)
No new posts Carduelis (Goldfinch, Desert, Greenfinch)
The above is an example of what I see when I am in the Species Forum - the "New posts" is coloured beige on my screen and the "No new posts" is just white. So it appears to be working for me at least.
Anyone else not see the different colours (in the circles) on the left side of the screen before the individual specie sub-forums?
