Why did I think red tipped beak spells red head? Evidently I am learning nothing about gould color. I am so confusedL in Ontario wrote:Too early for me to tell. Could be either Black or Red.

Re: ?H WB YB
It is black. And she does have the red beak. But I keep hearing that YB's and or dilutes can't express their true head color so it shows as white or gray or whatever.L in Ontario wrote:What about the hen in your avatar - what colour is her head?JohnBoy wrote:Why did I think red tipped beak spells red head? Re: ?H WB YB
I know it's male. It's been singing for a month now. He's been slow to molt His siblings have already molted and have gone to new homes already. I am keeping this one cause it is my first YB, WB.BigBear0007 wrote:It's a black head, white breast, double factor yellow and it's a male.
There is a blue collar starting to show.
I am also noticing yellowish feathers on the head at the area where it meets the beak

Re: ?H WB YB
It doesn't spell red head, it just indicates they aren't genetically YH.JohnBoy wrote:Why did I think red tipped beak spells red head? Evidently I am learning nothing about gould color. I am so confusedL in Ontario wrote:Too early for me to tell. Could be either Black or Red.
Visually black headed normal birds also have red tipped beaks unless they are genetically YH.

If it spells anything it just means that if they had a red head color allele they'd be capable of depositing red color, but since they don't, they can't, and they're black as a result.

Dad is BH, PB, dilute. Mom is BH, PB, YB. Both must be split to white cause this bird has a white breast.nixity wrote:What are the parents?
