Hilary,

All you gotta do is go check in your local consignment store for a similar entertainment center. Can't be that difficult to cut out panels and replace with whatever material you want. Beats building one from scratch!

Very pretty. I love the backing and the idea that the front doors don't have the glass in them. Most impressive!

I'm lucky if I can find the right sized screw to fix my screen door (that took about 3 months). Unfortunately I think doing this kind of conversion is a little beyond my handyperson skills!!

Holy cow, my mouth is hanging open looking at this aviary. What a fantastic idea. I am very impressed. The backing is awesome; I've used this same material for the bottom of an outdoor platform feeder for my "wild" feathered friends.

Now you have me thinking about going to Salvation Army to look for an old armoire!

Outstanding job!!!

Tammieb, I actually think it would be easier to build one from scratch.

The problem with modifying an exising piece of furniture is that there's all sorts of hardware and extra bits and non-square corners and such you have to work around.

Also, getting doors to hang straight is no picnic. Fortunately, the finches don't mind uneven gaps around doors.

Marianne, thanks. My finches seem happy with it, too.

My brother and I built my flight cage/aviary from scratch. Image But for those unable to build themselves or without a handy brother it might be easier to convert an existing piece of furniture. NOTE the small white flight cage in my photo... that was once a chest of drawers.

Oooooh, those are both fabulous.

Somewhere on the big ol' internet (maybe even here on finchforum?) someone posted about building a flight cage out of screen doors from Lowe's -- it looked very nice, too!

I used screen doors from Lowes to build the flight cage in the above photo.

Directions for the screen door aviary are in the Finch Info Center here on Crystals website. I think that's what I'm going to try when I'm ready to build one.
