One of my zebras has small eyes

Post by finchlover1 » Sun Jul 31, 2011 11:45 am

If you have been seeing my posts, I had an accident with my cages while cleaning. I lost my balance and tumbled all the cages. Broke all the eggs. Not a big concern but one of my zebras is sitting on top of the nest, small eyed. The other two in the cage (m&F) see fine. BTW the third one is a M. It's not that it's an uneven amount cause I just got the males yesterday. Which other the female bonds with I will pair. Then I will have (I hope) a spare male. Wish I could pair him with my other CFW. They are my favorites, second to heavy pieds. I forgot why I wrote this......I think when I hit my head, I scrambled my brain. Talk what you will from this and if you figure out why I wrote this please make suggestions. (Strangest post I've ever done). :?:

Be careful when you work on the upper cages. I have to use a ladder to change the food in the top cage and I try to be careful when I'm up there.

Zip tie the stacked cages together. Less likely that they will tumble. However, if you fall and grab the cage, the entire stack will fall and a single unit.

The birds will work out and will do another clutch.
Most important is to take care of yourself.

How is your little boy that's been subdued since the accident? Maybe he just got tumbled around a little and is stressed. How are you?? That's so scary! I know the edges of wire cages are really sharp. My goodness, please be careful!

Gary, you come up with the most ingenious ideas. Love them. Trish, I'm thinking the male CWF may be shaken up alot. I fould all three in the nest sleeping tonight.

Taking it nice and low. Actually the birds are in better shape than I am. I reinjured a spine and whiplash what I got in a bad accident. My major cuts and horrible broozes came from 3 cages falling on me. Put like I said I lost only three eggs. I consider that a miracle.

The other finches are doing just fine. Thank you all for asking.

Might as well ask, not related but I'm sure you can help. I am looking for a proven pair of pied zebras. I will pay to have them shipped or drive (I'm in Jersey) to get them. No one has any zebras except grays. Lyn

PS. where do you all get your finches (zebras and societies).

I'm sorry to hear about your fall. As others have said, more eggs will come -- health comes first and thank goodness your injuries were not severe.

For birds, a lot of us go to bird fairs or purchase our birds from private breeders. A lot of us also search classifieds -- ebay classifieds, craigslist, hoobly, etc.

I did a quick search for you and found someone in New Jersey who has a surplus of Zebras. Perhaps you can contact him/her and see if they have any pieds. Good luck with your search and prayers for your speedy recovery. [-o<

Thank you all. I checked out the ad and checked out my fur baby. All three are in the nest and at times he sleeps more than the other two, both males seem to be interested in the female and she is interested in both of them!!! This should be interesting. Keep you all posted. Lyn

Tiffany first told me about using cable ties to secure the cages together, then others said they do the same, so it seems to be a common method of securing a stack of cages.

Be careful, the 2 males may get aggressive once one of them pairs up w the hen.

I get most of my birds from the local bird mart. But I also got some from a local bird shop and PetSmart.

Gary,

You are just chock full of information. It's funny, the three are getting along now so I thought I've leave them until I see who the female and male eventually pair up.

You know anything about societies? A seller just emailed me and has beautiful, gorgeous self fawn societies. I love pieds, but these are different and beautiful. Just for info curiosity, can you breed different colored societies? I have chocloate pieds. Can they be bread with the self fawn or does that mess up the color pool?
