8-3 Lavendars' nest!

Post by cindy » Wed Aug 03, 2011 9:41 pm

My Lavendars' have been in quarantine for the last 3 weeks. They are doing great and almost ready to be moved out into the other room to join the other finches...that was until I saw this!!!

They did this handy work in two days! I am pretty sure they are a pair! The male sings and the female makes a soft sounding chirp.

Very cool. Is it in a tube nest?

My new Shafts just build a cool nest on top of a stick nest.

Chase it is a tube nest and they added an extention onto it. I have more cocofiber coming in a day or so and will give them more to see if they will build it out more.

My shaft tails use ABBA boxes or a wooden open front keet box.

Wow! They build such cool nests! They're really pretty birds too! You have such a diverse flock cindy! =D> =D> oh, question, if you move them will they abandon the nest even if you just move the cage and not take them out?

I am going to have to move the cage put put it in the quiet room with the green singers once the lavendars are done with quarantine...another week. They get the last treatment on Monday then a few days of probiotics. The male sings and we can hear the little song out into the other room.

That was really fast! I'll try the tubular nest, too. I'll be following this thread to see how they do.

Sally, I have an order of coco fiber coming in tomorrow, I am going to give them more to see what they will do. I hung the tube nest and lined the bottom and part of the back with Cozy comfort and added coco fiber to the bottom and sides. They left it as is and roosted in it. The nest was not like that on Sunday.

They built it quickly with the coco fiber I had put on the bottom.

I can't wait to get them out of quarantine next week. They have been in there since July 17th. I can hear them singing from the other room. These are stunning little birds!

So, update us on your lavenders. How are they doing? Any eggs? I found four eggs in a nest today and then saw the female Lavender go into the nest and now she appears to be incubating those eggs. I am very excited.

They are still in quarantine but due too be brought out early this week. The nest is so long in the front I can not see in it. I did get a good size order of coco fiber in and gave them some more...it is a little longer now.

I don't want to disturb the nest at all so whatever happens, happens...getting them was surprise all it's own, eggs and chicks would be ebven better.
