Question in regards to societies...preventive meds

Sorry - I thought there was a med for ASM in the above treatment. I agree if you don't have something for that - I would definitely include it for all new/incoming birds.

The problem w ASM in gouldians is that gouldians (and canaries) are more vulnerable to ASM.

I treated all my finches for ASM after our incident. I put Iverlux in the water of the "healthy" finches and gave it directly on the skin for ones that appeared to have face feathers missing. Mine are still in quarantine.

I treat all incoming birds regardless of species for air sac mites during quarantine only. I use scatt and just put a drop on them when I transfer them to their quarantine cage. Using scatt you only need to treat once because it lasts 21 days in their system which is the life cycle of the mite. I do notice now that they are saying to retreat after 21 days once more to be sure which could easily be done while still in quarantine.
From everything I've read there is no preventative just a treatment. I don't retreat my birds again and haven't had a bird come down with ASM.

Thank you Debbie...I will have to use a preventive in the water...especially with the flights. I have not had in incident with it but still unclear if i should do this since most of the birds have been here for a while 1 to 2 yrs and my other pairs were created from offspring.

I give Scatt to every new bird that comes into the house (all finches and canaries).

Cindy, I would treat only the new birds. If the other birds have never had any symptoms they are fine.

Given what I went through with losing my 3 finches in two days, I gave my whole flock Scatt the first week on the skin and Iverlux in the water the second week. I'll repeat in three weeks. Even with juveniles, I wanted to make sure no one caught anything from the food, water, or something else and may have passed it on through the air, water, food, etc. I am being more cautious since I was doing routine preventatives previously, but that was not enough. So, now I am extra careful and preventative to avoid illnesses again. Such a conundrum.

Scatt is applied right on the skin and lasts in their system for 21 days, I wouldn't treat with something else till after that time frame.
Iverlux in the water needs to be given for 2 consecutive days for 3 weeks in a row.

I wouldn't recommend using different products at the same time or you may overdose or not give enough medicine to your birds.
