Help with my sick European goldfinch,

Hi,

Yesterday morning, she didn't come out of the shelter area like normally does, so I caught her and placed in my hospital cage indoor. She just stay on the perch motionless, no hard breathing, once in couple hours, she eats but not much. I am providing her vitamin water but no heatlamp as it is 85F in the room. No signs of improvements till now. What else should I do next?

I think she is a she, but not sure. She is about 6 months old. Thanks for any inputs.

From the video it seems it's a she! Right! I don't she is very sick, but it's a sign that she isn't quit ok! Try a lamp, a heat lamb and some vitamins! Keep an eye on her!

She looks fluffed up to me, so a heat lamp is still a good idea. Mine sit by the lamp is sick even in a warm room. Also, the droppings looked a little green in the video. That could indicate a problem. Have you seen droppings on paper towels on the bottom? She may need a medication. Good Luck.

Last night she didn't move on her perch, so I took her out and hand fed mixture of vitamin+softfood+water, one small drop at a time, then wrapped her in a warm blanket and placed her in a quiet room with a heat lamp. I fed her last around midnight. A vet visit would be the first thing today. I woke up at 6AM and rush to feed her again just to find she's passed away in her manmade nest. Besides from skinny, she however looks as beautiful!

Here drops were greenish. What was it that killed her? Her nose, eyes, beak, ears look normal and clean.

Would it be a in-flight collision that injures her internal parts?

In anyone interested, I will post her pictures.

Hi,sorry for your loss but it was probably Megabacteria which is common in goldfinches and canaries.Not an expert but you saying she was light is a giveaway.

So sorry for your loss! She was a beautiful little bird.

Keeping birds can be very challenging at times -- any over fluffiness (unless sitting on eggs) can mean illness but sometimes its hard to figure out what KIND of illness.

Coccodiosis a possibility if losing weight and loose droppings.

just saw your post, sorry for the loss.
The vid that you posted, was it the g.f sitting on the perch? if it was that was a himalayin g.f. these finches are finicky , was it cage bred? if it wasn't it's kind of hard to guess their age, I allways put mine on a sulfa drug during the molt. When they look fluffy like yours I give baycox for 2 days and repeat 7 days later. good luck next time

I am not sure if he is cage bred, or what kind. First time I have goldfinch.

Another sad news, this morning I lost another canary. He is ~8months old I bought last month at the Pleasonton birdshow. He was active, healthy, singing all day long, and still in his quarantine cage. I fed him mix finch seed, millet spray, homemade eggfood and romaine salad. Same exact symptoms with the goldfinch, stayed on perch, loose white-ish water drops, lose weight, and died within two days. On this canary I put him under heat lamp and fed him antibiotic for Coccodiosis. I am really confused now!
