Tomorrow is the big Building day!

Post by Jossi » Mon Aug 22, 2011 5:44 pm

Im building a new cage/flight for my finches tomorrow or at least Im going to start tomorrow... im super excited :D
I think this will take a week or two, and I hope it turns out the way I have set my mind on. [-o<

I would really apreciate if you guys to a look and got back with some tips if you have any. I will post photos on the way, and I am flexible as long as Im not finished

It is going to be about 6 ft long, 2,5 ft wide and 6,5 ft tall on the top.

There will be a pull out tray and some storage underneath. And it will be provided with wheels.

I have made a sketch... its not 100% accurate but it will give you some idea... It will have two smaller doors on the front (the lower ones, and a big one in the middle... I might divide the bigger door in to two sections to prevent birds from escaping while cleaning.

Awesome! I never thought to put a pitched roof on because they fly side to side but maybe they'd like their nests way up in the top of the pitch. 8) cool!

My cage has a pitched roof, and the finches like to roost up there. I have a wicker nest at the very top for them, too. Often times they fly straight from the bottom of the cage to the top in a nearly vertical fashion, which was really surprising to me

And your flight looks really, really nice. How do you make the pull out tray for cleaning? Is it like a drawer on a track with wheels?

By the way... I got a default message when I created this post, so I created another one as well ( but ignore that)

Concerning the drawers... I think I will make 2 drawers istead of one... Im not sure yet, if Im going to use some sliding wheels, I dont think its nessesary, there wont be any heavy stuff on the bottom...

I wanted that shape on the top just because I think it looks more like a little house, and it is a great place to build in som lighting. I hope they are going to use that part as well :D

Jossi, may I suggest putting on the wheels anyway. My living room aviary is 6ft long, and 6ft high. I am sooo glad that we decided to put on the wheels, otherwise it would be the biggest pain to move to clean underneath and behind. #-o And believe you me, they do manage to get seeds and feathers and dander, in front/behind/and underneath

The structure is soon finished... Im all swetty, and I bet my neighbors hate me by now for using the jigsaw

My you work quick =D> =D> =D>
The English word that you are looking for would be gliders. If you already have them, I would attach them regardless. As we all know structures will move as they work themselves into their comfy spot.
