Lilac breast male?

He looks like a lilac color to me, but I don't know about official colors. LOL They pretty bird.

Maybe it's just me but I've never seen a male with that dark an orange head. Mine are all bright orange. Can it be a hen? Does "he" sing?

I also thought it was a hen and when I paired it with the BH, WB, YB male he started attacking it like it was another male. But I really thought it was a hen also.

It's beak also has more orange coverage than I would expect from a male.

Maybe they had a personality clash between two males? I don't know.

So I guess I was right from the start, It is a hen.
The fighting just threw me off cause I never had my goulds squabble like that before.

It's an OH PB Normal hen, very beautiful one at that!

Thanks Tiffany, The male has calmed down and is no longer attacking her. He is very high strung. I have never had a gould like him. He paces back and forth trying to escape. What should I do to calm his nerves?

What size cage is he in with her? Has he always been like this or just when you introduced the female? Was he recently housed with any other birds (including hens)? If so, he may have previously bonded to another bird and that's why he's acting so strung out if she was removed and replaced with an "intruder" hen..

There were eight birds finishing their first molt in the same cage (from 3 different clutches and parents) They were all together, mostly females. There is one other male. The cage was a large breeding cage. He and she were moved to a smaller breeding cage half the size of the larger one. There is one other female that is a BH PB GB that is not related to him. Note: he was always a little high strung and nervous.

Could just be his personality

I've had a few birds like that along the way, they never seem to really chill out.. the one male I had that was a total nutcase was a RH, though.
