I think the voting poll will consist of 3 questions:
{} We keep the Species Forum as it is currently (no changes)
{} We go back to the old set up of everything mixed together
{} We make some MINOR changes to the current set up (ie put common names in front of scientific names).

Does that sound okay? Did I miss anything?

Sounds good to me but, since it is summer, might it be more reasonable to leave it up for 2 weeks? That way everyone has an opportunity, even if they are away for awhile.

I think the poll is a good idea :)

I find them all broken up now hard to follow and actually try to stay out of species now unless I have time to look for the current posts on each species...

I guess you know what my vote will be...

Might just be me but I also find that people tell the species in their posts less because it's in that category. So now I have to scroll up and see where it's posted. Not a huge deal but a pain.

Maybe the solution would be to go back to one species forum but strongly encourage everybody to list the breed in the subject line.

To me, that would be helpful also for all other forums. I personally are for example not interested in reading posts about species that I don't have, especially on days where I can't spend much time online and only try to catch up with posts. Its a little a annoying when I have to open a post that doesn't really say anything in the subject line besides "help me" or "I have a question" only to find out that it's about a bird or topic i don't know anything about and couldn't help anyway... (Above examples where taken out of the blue, I am NOT quoting any specific post if there ever was one with such a subject line exactly. :-))

Just food for thought and my personal impression...
Walk-in aviary with Waxbills (6 Cordon Bleu, 3 Orange Cheek, 3 Black-rumped, 1 Lavender, ), 1 European Goldfinch, 4 Gouldians, 2 Spice Finches, 6 Owl Finches, 4 Budgies and 2 male Button Quail.
I also have 2 parrotlets, 3 dogs, 1 snake and 3 freshwater fishtanks.

hi
i dont think this will ever be resolved,i think the designers, moderators and all the people who run the site should just make up thier minds what will be best for them to organise and make that decision as this could run for a long time....as i have said it is much easier to go on to the new posts and start from there if people are finding it to difficult, because people will forever be coming up with other species and where they are situated,it really doesnt affect me as i am not a breeder of anything, but most people with a modicom of common sense should be able to navigate round the species sub forums

The voting is still going on. You can find the poll under the Site Related folder.

I had no clue the vote even started. I had never ever been to the site related folder. If has gone unnoticed to me all this time I have been using the forum. #-o

Okay - time's up and thankfully we don't need a tie breaker. You've all voiced your opinions and cast your votes - thank you very much.

We will be going back to having ONE Species forum with all the varieties together in one forum as they were before.

Many thanks for your enthusiasm for this topic and your cooperation.

All the various finch forums have been deleted and the posts have all been moved into the Species forum per the results of the poll. It sure was a close one right up to the last minute! =D>

:? okay...you know there will be some feed back  I'll start
I would of thought that with three catagories...two having to be on the side of keeping the species list, one without change and one with minor changes that that really caused a split in the keep the species list. Those two choices were for keeping and together carried the most votes... and the one for not keeping had the most single votes..... seems the 2 split catagories for keeping the species list doomed the poll from the onset...... maybe if you had added 4th choice; a split for the go back to the old way split with possibly a choice like... go back to the old way with a few minor changes, it would been a more accurate poll because then that choice would of possibly been split also :| Just mathematic equations....
Kind of like if an Independent running alongside a republican in this country; it splits the votes between the two...then the democrats reap the bennifits of the split...though it may not of been the majority of people that voted democratically.....
Whatever the outcome was of this poll really doesn't matter. I will still read and contribute my 2 cents.... and if I want to study in depth about certain species...well there are plenty of other forums dedicated to each species out there :D
