The poll was listed as three separate questions and no combining of any two was ever intended. (wouldn't that be cheating in itself?)

I believe what Candace is saying is that technically speaking - two of the options (voting options) were, for all intents and purposes, voting to keep the new format - one to keep it as is, one to keep it with minor changes.. so it divided the votes up - but if you look at it, both options were for maintaining the species list in the new format.

I see what she's saying, but I feel like mentioning it now that the vote is over is unfortunately too little too late. I don't think people will want to vote a second time..

I wouldn't (and really, didn't) have looked at it that way.. I wish it had been brought up sooner so we could change the options ahead of time.

Actually Tiffany, I did post what the 3 poll questions would be ahead of time and asked for feedback earlier in this thread. 8) See below...

L in Ontario wrote:I think the poll will be interesting. I will post the voting poll on August 15th and will leave it up for 1 week (in case anyone is on vacation).

I think the voting poll will consist of 3 questions:
{} We keep the Species Forum as it is currently (no changes)
{} We go back to the old set up of everything mixed together
{} We make some MINOR changes to the current set up (ie put common names in front of scientific names).

Does that sound okay? Did I miss anything?

Sorry if that came across wrong.. I didn't mean to suggest it wasn't open for discussion in the beginning - I'm just saying it doesn't do much good to bring up now that the options are conflicting.
It should have been brought up (like you said) when the options were created and feedback was asked for..

It wouldn't have changed my vote, I wanted to go back to the old layout :)

Oh! I did take it wrong - thank you for clarifying.

Actually it was brought up by Anna and Debbie and discussed but was not adressed by the powers that be... it was just left as opinions and speculations. Read down towards the bottom of the post for the discusssion and confussion that Anna and Debbie referred to. It was discussed under the site related section... split off from the species section. Seems the split in topic listings caused much confusions for some also, until Sally listed under the species list that the voting was under site related  Here is the link of that 2 options for one choice discussion
http://finchforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=1 ... 20&start=0

I posted that this was feedback... because it is :D The topic was adressed and left hanging so I assumed that the moderator didn't see it as worthy to address back then..... so all you have left is feedback :? Polls can be fickled sometimes. Basically it doesn't matter...just seems that Liz went through a lot of time, energy and research all for nothing :| I bet her work would of paid off had she only listed 2 choices in the poll

Ah - my mistake - I didn't read the thread under the poll, I just voted.

But I guess in Liz's defense the poll was created after the discussion in this thread, so if there were questions about the voting options, she (the powers that be) were looking for the discussion to take place in this thread, before the poll was created - since the options were brought up in this thread first (for discussion).

 no need to defend Liz.... I think that she was more than fair and patient doing all that work, then trying to appease all the poeple that were against the new section.... My hat is off to her...
I know I wouldn't of been that accomadating  I would of given 2 choices..keep or remove..... and then I know all the work I did would of been a worthwhile endeaver.....
I think Liz was trying to address everyones input...those like me that loved the new section and do applaud her efforts to create it, those that liked it but wanted familiar names listed first so that they could find it user friendly, and those that hated it from the get go...
Hats off to her accomadating efforts =D>
Feed back is always meant for future endeavers...not past ones  It is meant as a good thing, growth... not a critical thing :| Feedback, good or bad always has provided growth for me anyway...maybe that's just me  Sorry if my feedback has upset anyone

IMO, Liz listed the choices in the only way that was fair. Members had said they wanted to go back to the old setup, or they wanted to keep the new setup, or they wanted to keep the new setup but with changes (which is not the same thing as keeping the new setup). If someone liked the new setup but hated the scientific names, it would have been unfair to ask them to vote for the new setup as it was.

It would be like having a poll to decide which bird is more popular--a Blue-capped CB, a Red-cheeked CB, or an Owl. The BCCB gets 2 votes, the RCCB gets 2 votes, and the Owl gets 3 votes--the Owl is the most popular. You can't lump the two CBs together to make them the most popular, as they are not the same bird. They are simply in the same genus, just like Strawberries and Goldbreasted are in the same genus.

We can't expect the forum to be all things to all people anyway. It would become too unwieldy with time. Perhaps this will work out to be better in the long run. The Species section can be for species-specific posts, and posts regarding breeding, health, etc., can go back in those sections. And there is always a lot of species-specific information in the Finch Information Center.

I do admit I would have voted differently if I had understood better how the questions were to be interpreted.

OK, here I go making trouble when I said I wouldn't... but, doesn't it seem like more people (overall) voted to keep the Species Specific Options (whether with small changes to how they were listed or not?)

It's ok that all goes back to normal because this is a great forum no matter what. :)

Either way was fine by me....if someone wants to know the formal name it is on the FIC. I rather liked the formal names listed with the common names....I'm not changing my signature!!!!!

I do like your signature, too -- very clever alliteration, there.

Zebras obviously :)
I think that if you just go to " View new posts" then you can still see all of the posts that other people post about their finches. it will just be easier to find a certain species if you go to the board index. like, say you have a question about Gouldians, then go to the Gouldian subforum and you can look around. instead of going through hundreds of threads about 10 different species. i think this is the main point here :)
it is just more helpful

Edit: now that i saw there are 9 pages, i realized that i have probably repeated what a ton of people said. Oh well
