Finally, We are getting better!

Post by finchmix22 » Thu Sep 01, 2011 11:25 am

This is an update to those who followed my Emergency request for help for my sick finches. I have been treating the survivors for a month now and finally they are looking healthy and acting normally. They've all been moved back to the bird room, AKA our family room, but I am still keeping them in their own cages for now. These are larger than the sick cages, but not as large as the flights. I still see two of the OCW's that are not as active as the other two OCW's, but they look good and not sick and tired. No one is fluffed anymore. My Spice finches are doing great and happy to be out with the other finches. My Owls are still messy looking, but I think the fledges are molting into their adult feathers. I am adding Feather Fast for them. My Owl hen is now perching and sleeping in the nest with the rest. So, her wing seems to be healing.
Thank you very much for all the support and suggestions. What finally seemed to get them past the crisis was the combination of Amoxitex and Ronivet 12 % in their water. They are now all on Probiotics for the week. Hopefully, this is the last time I'll have such a crisis because that was very stressful. Thanks again everyone!! =D> =D>

FYI-I forgot to let you know about the rccb's, the ones who survived. They pair successfully raised the other rccb's egg to a now juvenile, who started singing yesterday. So, I have one male from the pair that died. Thank God for small miracles. I wish I had a hen for this male, but he won't be ready to breed until next year.

Thanks Tiffany and Debbie. I was so scared when finch after finch started getting sick. We weren't sure what caused the problem, but are glad they seem healthy now. Even have new hatchlings and some eggs waiting to hatch. Back to normal again. \:D/

Good news for sure; it is time to take a deep breath!

Everytime we go through something scary with our finches we learn more and do better the next time a similar emergency comes along. It's a big learning curve with these little birds...

Your little RCCB is a cutie!

Glad to hear everyone is doing better. It's hard to have illness in one bird, but when you have it going thru your flock, that must be just awful, and you feel so helpless.

Don't forget that with CBs, the females also sing. I thought my little handfed Peanut was a hen till he molted and got his red cheek patches.

Sally, you mean even rccb hens sing? :? I have never heard my hen sing. I figured the juvie is a male because he sings all the time.
