I finally figured out what to feed my zebras. I buy the Goldenfeast Australian blend. Has everything but the kitchen sink. All the seeds, fruits, veggies. It has some larger pieces. I use a food processor and put the food through it and it makes all the food smaller (not powerdery) and they now eat everything including the black seeds. I can feed my finches anything as long as I use the food processor. It's a breeze now. Love the Australian Blend. Don't have to worry about given them fruits, veggies, certain seeds. Everything is in this blend and not too expensive. It also lasts longer when it goes through the food processor.

I have also been trying to do alot of research on food for my zebras and HBros EM finch was suggested. It's really just different kinds of millet.

The poster who was going for the Abba 1900 can be bought at a Parrot shop for finches. The 1900 is for finches and big bird stores sell the very expensive finches so they have food and you would have no s&h.

As for me.....I've never been so confused in my life regarding the food. We have a place that sells finch mix and mostly is light colored seed. Hardly any waste but I thought you get what you pay for. I can get a 5 lb. bag for $6.

I'm tempted to do that and just add egg protein and petamine and, which is also light in color and I don't have to worry about spoiled eggs.

Add Australian blend, which is fruit and veggies and call it a day. I can't spend my days doing this when I've been out of work for 2 years and need to look for jobs and spend more time looking for bird food. The canary bird farm feeds their finches and canaries their mix and they are healthy.

Think that's the route I'm going to go. Good luck to all.

I've started feeding my birds the herman bros seed also. A friend and I split a shipment of the K.G. Finch mix on there, and I'm getting almost no waste. In the future I may start having them mix certain seeds for me. I think my birds would like to have a little less japanese millet and add some white millet to the mix instead. I still have some birds r us seed left I got from Tiffany, but I'm diluting the rest of that strictly for my gouldian only cages. There is definitely more waste with the BRU seed and because it's a bit more expensive, I may switch over to herman entirely and make my own mixes for each season.

The goal of the Birds R Us seed blends is not "less waste" but rather "more variety." A true no waste seed blend would be one with just several seed varieties where there would be virtually no waste as the selection opportunity would be very limited. The goal of the Birds R Us seed blends is to provide a variety of seeds to select from as their nutritional needs evolve over the course of the seasons. This creates a little more waste but gives your birds more choice in regulating their diet. Here's more on the topic: http://www.finchforum.com/viewtopic.php ... 53&start=0

Hi Cindy,

Just the 2 Kg and the 5 Kg sizes, and then a 10% discount on orders of $50.00 or more (not including shipping).

For the 10% discount enter the Promo Code: BREEDER and then click the Update button to apply the discount when there is $50.00 or more of merchandise in your shopping cart.

Thanks :)

I can't afford to let my birds have the waste they are creating. I'd rather have them eat , no waste and I am saving ALOT of money. they get what they need and isn't that what we all want without going broke? I'm very happy with what they are eatting and so are they. Finally I can relaz and really enjoy them now. =D>

I would think so, although I have no idea what seeds they will select. It will depend on their overall diet. They will also have to get used to seeing new seeds in some cases. Many seed mixes don't include rye grass, switchgrass, and lettuce seed.

Every customer tells me a different story. One said her birds tore into the switchgrass immediately, so it brought something unique to their diet they were missing.

The Premium Herb Seed mix was designed as the Breeding & Moulting add to the Premium Finch Blend for mixed flights. So depending on the species folks are using it in different quantities and different schedules. When I first started putting rye grass and lettuce seed in front of my Gouldians they wouldn't touch it for 2 or 3 months. Now they eat it heavily during the breeding season. Rye is high in protein and lettuce is a unique oil seed with a nutritional profile that is different from niger or rape. But they had to figure it out on their own...they wouldn't believe me :)
