Doxycycline

Post by Annie » Thu Sep 08, 2011 9:40 pm

I see lots of references to Doxycycline, but I have a question. I ordered and received it (for stand by - no one is sick). As I was reading the instructions, it is stated "Use glass, stainless steel or glazed pottery drinkers. Do not use plastic or galvanized metal." Do I need to go and get some "emergency" only drinkers in case I need to use this? I think I broke the last of my glass tube drinkers with my vigorous washing and they all had plastic feet anyway. Just would like some thoughts on what you all have done and if this is truly and issue.

I think so - their water is always in the same place so maybe if I just swap out the drinker for a bit. I'm thinking I'd better try it just in case they need the meds in the future. I'd hate to try a "strange" drinker if one was sick. Maybe I'll just look into another med that can be put in regular plastic drinkers. Hmmm

Target has little clear glass custard cup (I think Pyrex makes them) perhaps place one next to the drinker a couple of times a week to see if the readily go to it...they might drink then bathe in it but at least they will know that it is their water. It would be easier than buying and washing a drinker just for meds. If they use the glass bowl then if you do need to medicate just put the cup in and take out the drinker.

So does the dollar store in my town. You get a pack of 3 little glass (custard cup) bowls for a buck. I use them for lots of things for my birds. You can't beat a buck!
