Cindy beautiful babies.... I have a question regarding those circular things the babies are perched in. Looks like cage material formed into some kind of perch and the other white plastic. Aren't you afraid they will get their nails stuck in the white mess? What was the purpose for those type perches? They do look interesting......

This is the same mesh John uses on the bottom of his cage, the holes are so super small, it has not been a issue. I use it on the bottom of my baby cages for fledglings, also and it is wonderful for birds unable to perch if they have a injured foot or wing. I would not use it with the smaller finer clawed waxbills since their nails are so slim.

The black cage mesh is done in a cylinder shape for roosting, it is useful whe young fledge and the nest is removed. I usually make and hang one or two in the cages once the nest is removed.

Thak you Vagur. I have three different sets of parents so I can create pairs from the young.

Sherry it just gives the babies a bit of a spot to go to especially if the parents wet back to nest and the little oes are not weaned yet. It is also a security for the finches to know towards lights out they have a place to sleep.

I am going to get some of the smaller gage cage wire and make one for the 7 society chicks. Last night all 7 chicks plus mom & dad and the 5 spice finches were all together in one of the ferns. It was something else to see.

I can imagine!!! If you use wire smooth the edges for them. The black plactic or vniyl mesh is about $13 dollars maybe less at Home Depot.
