Re: Fresh seed vs store bought seed...Guess the results?
My finches continue to daily empty their small ceramic bowls filled with the fresh seed samples being tested. They are eating very little of their normal finch seed mix. They are all lining up to have a turn at the new fresh seed mix. I have begun mixing the three types together and offering the mix in all three ceramic bowls and it makes no difference to them - they are still emptying the bowls. Please put my name on some list as a future customer! I have offerred so many kinds of seed mixes it is not even funny, and I have never seen them suck seed down like this before. I am not picky as to whether it is pre-mixed or separated out by the type of seed.

I am so glad that they are enjoying the fresh seeds and I do not have a list but I will post on the forum when I have it available. Thank you for the feedback.

Nancy I gave my two canaries some of the new seed and they seem to like it. I have been giving them a small amount for about a week and it looks like they eat most of it each day. Haven't filled their hoppers with reg. canary/finch mix for some time.....

Re: Fresh seed vs store bought seed...Guess the results?
Now that our daughter is safely off to college and moved into her dorm I was able to start my test.
I have been giving my finches a small bowl of Brown Top, Japanese millet & Proso millet.
Their two favorites are the Japanese and Brown but they will eat the Proso millet as well. One thing I noticed is they will still eat their fresh foods first (greens, egg food and veggies) before they eat the seed. I was worried they would want nothing but the fresher seed. Mine still eat their store bought mix too. Except for the black seeds which they just throw on the floor. Do you think because of the lack of vitamins a hopper of store bought seed with vitamins should be kept as well as the fresh seed? What are other people doing to supplement their finches vitamin intake?

I think Nancy said she intended the millets to be a base. You still have to add other seeds like canary, flax, etc. My bird has never had vitaminized seed blends (I buy straight seeds and blend my own), so I use the Harrison pellet mash to supplement. He eats some in the mornings, before I give him the veg and fruits.

Pellets, fresh veggies, dried herbs, dried eggfoods like the ones by ABBA. I also grind either roudybush or zupreem pellets into dried eggfood and always leave that down along with a bowl/cup of pellets. I also blend the pellets into the seed mix...I don't use liquid vitamins.

Another option is to put your vitamins/supplements into your eggfood when you are feeding eggfood. Right now I'm using Miracle Meal in my eggfood but as soon as I'm finished with this lot I'll switch to Mike Fidler's Soft Food instead...
BTW: common thought is that dry seed should comprise of no more than 20% of a bird's diet --

Yes, I am not offering a premium seed blend just offering farm fresh millet mixture that are the majority of the premium seed mixtures. This way you can buy the millets in bulk for a low price but still offer your other premium mixes with the niger, thistle, etc. This way you don't have to pay top dollar on large amounts of the premium mixes.

For those of you that have PM'd me I am hoping to have it available in the next 3-4 weeks.

Great, so what do we need to do to order from you? Do we go to your website? Is there now a special category for us to choose?
Thank you for making it available to us!
