Which Finches Are The Most Flighty?

Post by Albinosilver » Tue Sep 27, 2011 9:11 pm

I haven't kept a great variety of finches, mostly zebra, societies and one little green singer. But one thing I've noticed is that some species of finches seem to fly around more then others.

I don't have an aviary or anything, but I always let my birds fly freely around the house once everyday. They have access to all the rooms but they generally stay close to the cage. I always keep the curtains open, as it lets in more light. So far, no accidents with the windows...

Anyways, with the Zebra finches and Society finches, they really enjoy playing on the play area on top of the cage, eating millet and hopping around the perches. While my GS loves flying, he flies all around the living room (the room where my birds are). He sometimes even flies over and lands on my head when I'm sitting on the couch beside the cages. lol.

Do you guys ever notice that some of your birds like flying more then others?

I agree with John that parrot finches are very active but when I think of flighty I think of nervous or panicked flying. I had siberian goldfinches and saffrons which were extremely flighty but the parrot finches are more hyper or active than nervous.
