At the pet store I found a mite repelent that is rather interesting. It looks and kinda smells(not suggested that you actually smell it) like a toilet bowl cleaner. The smell is very light, so you'll never smell it in the room.
I used to have problems with mites, but I picked up one of these
do-hickies and hung it from the back of the cage and voila! no more mite issues. It's supposed to work for 6 months but I change it every 5.
They work great and save a lot of heart ache

I had a teacher zebra bird with my goulds and she caught it from them, I heard her clicking once. So they could get it if they come in direct contact with infected birds but none of my other zebras that were in a separate cage had mite problems!
lyderbug, I'm very interested in that one - I wonder if anyone else used it?

Oh wow, yeah that's the one.....they don't seem to be having any problems.
what kind of negative effects are we talkin here? obviously the worst being death...but why are they unhealthy?
I'm going to get rid of it! Unless someone has an idea of what the story is with this thing.
Thank you thank you thank you

You probably shouldn't use 8 and 1 protector. I have heard some really bad things on it, in fact I think this is a post from 2007 on the harmful effects of it.
All finches can get air sac mites, but canaries and gouldians are most likely. I use SCATT for mine and that works great. They are gone within 2-3 treatments
