updates on my owl finches

Post by summert85 » Sun Oct 02, 2011 11:08 pm

My owl finches are setting in very well, haven't noticed any of them tend to start singing just yet, so sex is still unknown - all are about 3 months. They are just the cutest thing ever!! Even my 72 y/o grandma think so. :D Here are few picture to share...

Summer, the males won't likely sing for another couple of months, it is a soft song. He will stand straight up and sing.

The second picture on the bottom......from the loos of it now (this is not written in stone just yet since they have some growing to do) the picture with the red dish....lower right side that owl looks to be a female unless it is a shadow. See the darker bib color, females will have a darker bib than the males. The one in the front looks to be a boy, the one in the back looking straight at the camera looks to be a boy, possibly hard to say since it seem a little dusty looking. They are still maturing so keep the pictures coming, see if you can spot the differences. If you can get a few more pics of the fronts you might be able to tell now.

Top picture...owl coming out of the nest looks to be a male.

Liz has a wonderful site her daughter did that tells how to sex them, it is spot on. I took this to shows and still use this method. http://www.gardenessgardens.com/OwlSexing.html
