Green Singer

Hi everyone
I just got this Green Singer from an elderly women who could no longer care for her.
She told me that she is a female, and that she got her about 4 yrs ago.
Do not know her age.
My first singer! Wow she sings so pretty.

Heres a picture of her. Is it a female? Sorry its so blurry she moves so fast.
Another question. The lady told me that her mate just died, do you think I should try and find her another singer?

If she sings, then the GS is a male. The hens only chirp. Your picture does look like a hen with the ring of spots around the neck. Here are pics of my GS cock and hen. They do like to have a mate and to breed to keep them happy.

if that green singer is 4 years old and still has that neckless , i am 100 % sure its a female !!! and sorry to say but the females can and will sing ( but not as intense and long as a male ) , just today i heard my female sing when she was away from the nest for a few secs .... sitting on 3 eggs
try to find her a new hubby

Thanks for the pictures! She definately looks like your hen. She is either 4 yrs or older so yes must be a female.
Rayray- She definately sings! but not for a long period of time Just little melodies here and there. Its still beautify though!
I think I will contact my breeder and see if she has a mate for her.
Is it ok if I put her in my aviary with my gouldian pair? Im going to keep her in her cage for a few days to make sure shes healthy. But wanted to put her in with them if they are compatible

you can put her with almost any kinda bird aslong its NOT a yellow colored bird or canary .... when you get her a mate and they start breeding / building a nest , they can become very agressive to all other birds !!! , not always but be prepared for that

Ray Ray, I do understand that GS hens "sing," but I was referring to the difference of a song that is long and melodious and chirping for brief, although, beautiful periods of time. My hens do not sound anything close to the males song, which will go on forever, it seems. Out of my six GS, four are males for sure and sing so much. The others, hens, chirp away, but do not "really sing."

When a female GS doesn't have a mate or male GS around, they sing, and much more then chirping. Female GS are funny, when with a male that is singing up a storm or even other birds that are singing a lot, they tend to be much quieter. But they can still sing like a male when they want to.

That explains why I've never heard my GS hens sing. They always have had a mate around! LOL. Too bad. I wish I could hear them sing, but I'd hate to separate them from their mates.
