Re: Society's Egg is over due
Have you been able to candle them to determine if they are fertile?
Personally, I would wait a couple more days before giving up on them, especially if you're not sure if they are fertile. I think the incubation time for societies is 16 days. It is possible that they were sitting on them but did not actually start incubating them when you thought. So it could be not quite 16 days yet.
How many eggs were there when you think they started incubation?

Re: Society's Egg is over due
Be patient.
I wait till day 20 or 21.
This is just in case I started counting before she actually started to sit.
This also is for the normal variation in how many days to hatch, some are faster some are slower.

Society & babies
okay so today i checked the nest again..and 1 of the 3 babies has more seeds in it's crop, there are a small amount on the other two. Is that nothing to worry about? I'm afraid if this continue the two might not make it. ;=( BIG worry for me.

Re: Society's Egg is over due
Congratulations! Society babies are so cute and fun to watch grow up. I usually give my Society's 21-28 days, just in case I counted wrong. Usually, when there are infertile eggs, the finches toss them before I can get to that task. They know what they're doing most of the time.

Re: Society's Egg is over due
I wouldn't panic just yet, maybe you scared off the parent while they were feeding? Make sure it's a consistent thing before you panic. Are you sure it's not enough, maybe the one is getting too much? If it's too little you might want to supplement till they start being fed more.okay so today i checked the nest again..and 1 of the 3 babies has more seeds in it's crop, there are a small amount on the other two. Is that nothing to worry about? I'm afraid if this continue the two might not make it.

Re: Society's Egg is over due
I waited for both parents to get off the nest to eat before I checked the nest. The other two are still no food...just very small..but you might be right maybe that one is getting too much...Im not sure??. Just cross my fingers they will all be okay!

Re: Society's Egg is over due
The hatchlings may last one day without feeding due to the egg sac, but if you see one being fed and not the others, I would supplement by feeding them a little each morning and wait until the afternoon to see if the parents take over. My owls ignored their hatchlings for 4 days and then took over my feedings. I just removed the nest each morning and afternoon to handfeed the hatchlings and put the nest back after each feeding. The parents sat on the hathclings to keep them warm and eventually they began feeding them and I was able to stop the handfeeding. The chicks are now three months old and doing great! Good Luck with your new babies.
