new crested society

Post by Oshtay » Sat Oct 22, 2011 3:57 pm

I just got this little guy and gal from a finch friend here in my area. The male is crested, the female is not. Is this what you call double crested?? Also, I think this is a chocolate pied and a fawn pied...but I'm not really familiar with society colors and mutations.

They are SO cute Oshtay! I would tend to agree with you that the male is a double crested.

Definitely double-crested :) The crest low on his neck is quite pronounced - wow!
They should make some lovely chicks down the line!

I should have known #-o
The pair is still in quarantine....and now sitting on eggs! I know society finches are good breeders, but WOW. I wasn't going to let them breed until next year. I guess I shouldn't have provided a nest [-X

I checked the eggs a few days back and saw that 5 out of the 6 were fertile. They started hatching this morning!!....2 down, 3 to go. The parents are making me a little nervous as they have no interest in eggfood or the grated boiled egg. I have their cage full of seed, millet, eggfood, and boiled egg. I sure hope they feed!

They will do fine....even if the parents aren't that interested in the egg food, they will stuff those little ones with all the other good stuff you are offering...Can't wait for baby pictures!!

So exciting! =D> They did get busy didn't they? Hopefully you'll get a couple double crested like Dad. He's a chocolate so I think he's been double dipped!  Isn't it exciting to see those teeny tiny little babies!?! I was totally taken aback the first time I saw newly hatched society chicks. I had to run and get my husband to see how tiny they were!
