Gouldian Coloring Confirmation
Okay so I have three baby Gouldians that are expected to fledge next week and I would like to hear your opinions/confirmations on what their coloring will be. My conclusion has been that two are blue and the other one is normal.
Parent Coloring
Hen: BH PB BB
Cock: OH LB GB (split to blue)
Two of the babies appear grey in their coloring and the other one has a green back.
Please let me know your thoughts or opinions. I browsed many of sites trying to determine this and from what I have seen the blues seem to appear more grey in color but.....I would love to get advice from others.
Thank you!

Yes - slate gray babies indicate blue, and olive green babies would be normal.
Here is a comparison picture of my babies for you:

And it said that your pair should give you either Blues or Green split to Blue. I personally haven't seen to many Gould babies but usually that grayish color means BLUE.
Mines had no luck on their first clutch but now they are on their 2nd clutch and I'm hoping to see some babies here next week. And my Fire finch babies are almost about to fledge also

Re: Gouldian Coloring Confirmation
I have 5 of my RH's eggs under societies right now and I am hoping that they are fertile...should know in a couple more days. If so, this is an early Christmas for me.
However, after this round of clutches....there will be no more breeding for a while.
But we (myself and the finches) need to take a break.
Thank you for the pictures, Tiffany!
Oh, and I will be posting pictures as soon as they fledge.

Congratulations! My first blue was a complete surprize to me... I didn't even know that both parents were split for blue....
I posted this picture and Tiffany informed me that I had a blue.... They definately have a look all to their own.
You can tell blues and silvers even before they get their feathers. The center nodule in the corners of their mouths will be white, while green backs and yellow backs will have the center nodule yellow

Re: Gouldian Coloring Confirmation
Yep, two were white and one was yellow but it was hard to see in the nest, and I didn't want to disturb them, so I avoided getting my hopes up. But, now I am certain. The normal was standing at the entrance of the nest this morning so he should fledge any time now. Will be posting pics soon. YAY!CandoAviary wrote:Congratulations! Re: Gouldian Coloring Confirmation
This is my first successful clutch of Gouldians. My RH's kept tossing theirs when they started to hatch. My Societies started to lay the other day so I replaced their (RH's) nest and they went to laying. So, I replaced the societies eggs with the RH's eggs (5 total) and then yesterday I looked in and there are only two eggs under the societies. UGH! They ate three of the eggs. Any ideas as to why they would do that? There are still two and she is incubating but I can't believe they ate them. Any ideas as to why they would eat them?waxbill lover wrote:Nancy, if this is your first clutch of gouldians and you have blue babies, I am SOOO jealous!
